Selecting the right grass for your needs

A 419 Tifway lawn419 Tifway, is grayish in color and medium fine in texture. 419 Tifway makes a very dense sod, is more weed resistant, weed and disease resistance, spreads faster than 328 Tifgreen and is superior to 328 Tifway. The grain of the grass lends itself well for use on putting greens. 419 Tifway will also give the homeowner a fine textured lawn.

The degree of growth that can be achieved through good management practices is one of the best qualities of this grass. 419 tifway provides an excellent impact absorbing cushion on playing fields.

Recommended Uses
419 Tifway is recommended for use on the following projects:

  • Ideal for homes with children and pets
  • Recommended for golf greens, tees, and fairways
  • Athletic fields where heavy traffic damages occur daily
  • Tennis courts, bowling greens and playgrounds
  • Commercial, and industrial landscape installations
  • High visibilty landscapes, where appearance is more important than cost

Characteristics

  • 419 Tifway is a weed and disease resistant turf
  • Spreads faster than 328 Tifway
  • Forms a dense, medium-fine textured turf
  • A low growing, rapid spreading variety
  • Turf is sterile and must be propagated by sprigs or sod
  • Does not tolerate shade, poor drainage, or high soil acidity
  • Saintains its color with less nitrogen than most other Bermudas

Planting Schedule
Sodding may be performed year-round in U.S.D.A. Plant Hardiness Zone 7 or any warmer zone. Sprigs should not be planted before soil temperature is above 65°F. Planting too early may retard development of a turf and extend the critical establishment period several weeks.
