Emerald Zoysia Grass has a fine tight blade growth, and lush dark green color, with durability and minimal maintenance. It requires less maintenance and mowing than other grasses such as Fescue or Bermuda. This versatile turfgrass thrives in agriculture zones 7-11 and is being tested in zones 5 and 6 for cold hardiness extremes.
Emerald Zoysia Grass characteristics include very fine leaf texture, good cold tolerance, good shade tolerance, and good wear resistance, but it lacks the cold tolerance of Meyer Zoysia grass.
Emerald is highly recommended for high-quality lawns where time and money allow for an adequate maintenance program. Emerald may be the most beautiful of the zoysia grasses, but it also is subject to thatch accumulation and "puffiness" and is susceptible to brown patch, dollar spot, and leaf spot diseases.

Emerald Zoysia Grass is recommended for use on the following projects:
- Sports fields, golf course tees, fairways and roughs
- High visibilty commercial landscapes, where appearance is important
- Corporate campus lawns
- Playgrounds, parks, and other public areas
- Recommended for high-quality lawns where time and money allow for an adequate maintenance program
- Grows well in all kinds of soils ranging from sands to clays
- Unlike most Zoysia grasses it thrives in extreme heat and humidity
- Exhibits excellent cold hardiness
- Must be propagated by sprigs or sod
- Drought tolerant due to deep root system
- Requires less fertilizer than St. Augustine or Bermuda grass varieties
- Has very fine leaf texture and shade tolerance
- Thrives in harsh climates yet exhibits excellent cold hardiness
- Grows well in partial shade
- Must be propagated by sprigs or sod
- Once established it develops a very dense turf

Sodding may be performed year-round in U.S.D.A. Plant Hardiness Zone 7 or any warmer zone. Sprigs should not be planted before soil temperature is above 65°F. Planting too early may retard development of a turf and extend the critical establishment period several weeks.
