Meyer Zoysia Grass is an improved strain of Zoysia japonica and has a medium green color and wider blades than Emerald. It is slightly less shade tolerant than Emerald. It does have the fastest spring greenup and best cold tolerance.
Meyer is slow to become established and must be propagated by sod or sprigs. Once established it develops a very dense turf, demonstrates good cold tolerant and grows well in partial shade.
On the grass areas surrounding bunkers, turf managers, golf course architects, and builders are increasingly ringing sand bunkers with Meyer Zoysia Grass.

Meyer Zoysia Grass is recommended for use on the following projects:
- Used on golf courses, parks and athletic fields.
- High visibilty landscapes, where appearance is important
- Makes an ideal lawn grass in some situations
- Not recommended for football or soccer fields where traffic is concentrated
- Meyer Zoysia is extremely winter hardy

Sodding may be performed year-round in U.S.D.A. Plant Hardiness Zone 7 or any warmer zone. Sprigs should not be planted before soil temperature is above 65°F. Planting too early may retard development of a turf and extend the critical establishment period several weeks.
