It is important to remember that sod is heavy and can easily overload your vehicle without the proper attention. Keep in mind that the amounts below are just estimates and your vehicle might be able to haul more or less. You should check the carrying capacity of your vehicle or trailer.

450 sq. ft. of sod weighs about 1,500 to 2,000 lbs.

Most cars will hold about 100 to 150 sq. ft.
Most ½ ton pickups will hold about 300 to 350 sq. ft.
Most ¾ ton pickups will hold about 450 sq. ft.
Most 1 ton trucks will hold about 900 sq. ft.

The carrying capacity of trailers vary. People often overrate what their trailers can carry.

VERY IMPORTANT: DO NOT overload your vehicle. Doing so will make you a hazard on the road and could damage your vehicle. Safety should always be always your first concern.
