Raleigh St. Augustine Grass is a vigorous, medium to dark green, medium textured, lawn grass. At higher maintenance levels, St. Augustine grass produces a thick, lush, dark green turf that is highly preferred by homeowners and commercial landscapers.
St. Augustine Raleigh is finer textured than Floratam and was selected for the control of St. Augustine declined disease, and is significantly more cold tolerant than the SAD resistant Floratam. Raleigh is presently the highest ranking cold tolerant and is also more shade tolerant than Floratam.
A healthy St. Augustine grass lawn effectively crowds out most weeds. It is known to be tolerant of high summer temperatures, and St. Augustine grass retains its color at temperatures as much as 10° lower than those which discolor bermudagrass.
In moist, warm seasons St. Augustine grass maintains a satisfactory turf cover with only occasional mowing. In drier climates (below 30 inches annual rainfall) it survives with supplemental irrigation.

Raleigh St. Augustine Grass is recommended for use on the following projects:
- St. Augustine grass is used primarily for lawns
- Low to medium traffic commercial landscape areas
- Does not tolerate heavy traffic
- It is the most shade tolerant, warm season grass
- Produces a thick, lush, medium to dark green turf
- Tolerates a wide range in soil types
- Effectively crowds out most weeds and other grasses
- Does not tolerant traffic as well as some other warm season species
- Produces satisfactory turf at moderate levels of maintenance
- St. Augustine thrives in high temperatures
- Retains its color at temperatures as much as 10° lower than those which discolor bermudagrass

Sodding may be performed year-round in U.S.D.A. Plant Hardiness Zone 7 or any warmer zone. Sprigs should not be planted before soil temperature is above 65°F. Planting too early may retard development of a turf and extend the critical establishment period several weeks.
